Role In Canon: A main character for the first three seasons, then her role was reduced to minor character.
History: Here and here at Bulbapedia. She's coming from post of her last real canon appearance, A Real Cleffa-Hanger.
Personality: Born as the youngest of four sisters, Misty was raised with the ideas shoved down her head that she had to live up to their beauty and grace, along with their hand-me-downs. She gained an inferiority complex from this, as they were supposed to be gym leaders, but she was so much more competent than any of them, and exclaimed when she left Cerulean City that she would become the greatest Water-Pokémon trainer in the world.
In the games she is titled as "the tomboyish mermaid," and while there’s truth in the fact that Misty is a tomboy, in that she doesn’t wear skirts or dresses or anything traditionally feminine, and is very blunt and rash at times, but she still loves romantic things. Anything involving traditionally romantic views or makeovers, or even the occasional girly clothes, can make her dissolve in cuteness. She also has a bias of wanting to train the cuter Pokémon, though sometimes she does ignore this rule in character-developmentally ways, such as their power or admiration from other trainers. Also being water-type helps as well in these circumstances.
Misty, at this point in her canon, has a lot less of a fiery-temper than she used to have when she ran away from home. What used to be a hair-trigger rage is more of a hair-trigger concerned lecture. Her anger has matured in that its now not just an explosion but also an amount of maternal and nurturing instincts that are strong since she obtained her Togepi, and then later her Azurill. Having baby Pokémon in your arms at most times tends to keep her calmer so she doesn't disturb them that much. She doesn’t really like reckless behavior, even though she’s sort of a hypocrite in that she’s prone to doing such things when trying to protect people, such as taking a poison attack from a giant tentactle pokémon in order to protect a Gyarados. Yeah.
She tends to connect most with people who are the youngest sibling, and those who are helpful, benevolent people. She clashes heads most of all with headstrong individuals who challenge her responses and beliefs at every point. People who she used to be like, in fact, so she also likes them, but shows it less often. Her beliefs lie strongly in treating people and pokémon like your friends or allies, and hates it very much when people are jerks and try to deem them as anything less-than-that. Fair fights are included in this as well, as a gym-leader. She puts a lot of effort into her gym, and doesn't like half-assing any sort of job involved in taking care of it. Being a gym-leader and having slacker sisters sort of drill that into your head.
Not to say she doesn't have an ego, because she does, and while it has been less easily brought-up and bruised as it used to be by any insult or compliment, she still has the echoes of one when it comes to her appearance or her abilities as a water-pokémon trainer. And a real bruise to her ego is her phobia of bug-pokémon, even though she's too afraid to acknowledge it whenever she sees one. It's comparable to any person's fear of bugs, but imagine that most of those bugs can actually hurt you.
Abilities: Does not have any supernatural abilities, though she is exceptionally good with water-type Pokémon, dancing, and swimming from her upbringing and her actual interests.
However, her Pokémon do have abilities, and if it's possible, I will be bringing a few with her. They include:
Azurill, Staryu, Gyarados, Corsola, Politoed, and Starmie.
